ICO concerns over facial recognition in school canteens

A letter concerning the use of facial recognition technology in nine school canteens was sent by the U.K. Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) to the North Ayrshire Council for violating the U.K. General Data Protection Regulation. ICO recommends NAC improvement related to data accuracy and minimisation. "New technologies such as FRT can offer benefits and efficiencies, but their use is not without risk from a data protection point of view. That risk is heightened where children's data is being processed”, pronounced ICO.
